The reining Boston City League champs, New Mission High’s girls’ basketball team, had high hopes for advancing in the state tournament but the season ended with a two point loss to Georgetown on Thursday night, at English High.
Georgtown (7-14) defeated the Titans, 47-45, in the second round of the Division 4 North sectional.
The Titans got off to a slow start in the first period, trailing 13-4 but battled back in the second to break even with Georgetown at half time at 19-19.
Minutes into the second half, the game was stopped for a brief presentation for New Mission senior guard Nieshia Kelley as she reached 1,000 points. Coach Greg Berry presented her with flowers and a certificate.
Kelley finished with a team-high 17 points while Edna Cristo-John contributed 11 points for the Titans.
With seconds remaining in the contest, the Titans rallied to tie the score but ran out of time before Georgetown advanced to a quarterfinal matchup with Fenway on Saturday.
